The Act permits fire and rescue services to provide advice on fire safety and to review fire risk assessments for accuracy and suitability, although a consultation fee may be charged.

Because advice on fire, explosions, and other areas is the responsibility of the emergency authorities, the Poison Information Center refers these matters immediately to the officer on duty of the Swedish National Rescue Services Agency. Questions concerning environmental impact may also have to be direeted to industry experts. Kemikontoret provides the center with the names of experts in approximately 100 chemical companies who can be contacted if necessary. The Poison Information Center also acts as national ICE center. 

In chemical agent releases, the analogue to this protective cordon is determined by the fire services or HAZMAT specialists but is again enforced and controlled by the police who act under fire and rescue guidance about the hazards involved, based upon detection and identification procedures described earlier. The principal purpose of this cordon is to permit rescue and life support for casualties as early as possible but with an emphasis on protecting emergency responders becoming the next casualties from the toxic release. 

In case of a major disaster, one platform in a region will be equipped to act as a control centre from which rescue operations are co-ordinated. Evacuation routes will be provided, and where large complexes are clustered together, a standby vessel will be available in the region to supply emergency services such as fire fighting and rescue.
