The European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg

For most of them EMBL is a station en route. The scientific network created by the people who once worked at EMBL and have now taken positions in other countries has strongly contributed to the development of an international scientific community throughout Europe. [Pg.10]

This is a complicated question. It can only be understood in the context of that time. I realized that with the work on the reaction center I had a very good chance to get an independent position somewhere. The Max Planck Society offered a job as a director to Hartmut Michel but, at that time, not to me. I had contacts with universities in Germany and with the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg. At that time I also made many trips to the United States, by invitation, to talk about this story. In the summer of 1986, two years after we had completed the structure I received a letter from this institution, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. It was motivated, as I now know, by the... [Pg.348]

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory s (EMBL s) offers a well-equipped pro-teomics laboratory in its facilities at the Proteomics Visitor Facility (Heidelberg, Germany). The services in MB concern protein isolation, imaging, and robotics sample preparation, supported by some other analytical facilities. [Pg.237]

EMBL—the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (Heidelberg) Nucleotide Sequence Database (also known as EMBL-Bank). The database is produced in an international collaboration with GenBank (USA) and the DNA Database of Japan (DDBJ). The EMBL nucleotide sequence database is part of the Protein and Nucleotide Database Group (PANDA). [Pg.401]

I express my smcere appreciation to Rainer Pepperkok (European Molecular Biology Laboratory, EMBL, Heidelberg) for teaching me microinjection on the now-discontinued Zeiss Automated Microinjection System in the early 1990s. I also express appreciation to Rainer Saffrich (EMBL) for help in setting up my first microinjection system in the United States. Work in the author s laboratory has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. [Pg.39]
