The dreaded P value

Chapter 3 together with testing hypotheses and the (dreaded ) p-value. Common statistical tests for various data types are developed in Chapter 4 which also covers different ways of measuring treatment effect for binary data, such as the odds ratio and relative risk. 

New synthetic antibacterials. The success of antibiotics and sulphona-mides as antibacterials encouraged new exploration of simple synthetic compounds. Isoniazid (6.72), a very simple substance (wonicotinic hydraz-ide), has played the leading part in reducing human tuberculosis from a dreaded scourge to an easily treated disease. It was discovered simultaneously by three independent laboratories (OfFe et al,y 1952 Grunberg and Schnitzer, 1953 Fox, 1953). An even simpler substance, p-aminosali-cylic add, is a valued adjuvant in this treatment.
