The Central Science

It can be said that science is the art of budding models to explain observations and predict new ones. Chemistry, as the central science, utilizes models ia virtually every aspect of the discipline. From the first week of a first chemistry course, students use the scientific method to develop models which explain the behavior of the elements. Anyone who studies or uses chemistry has, ia fact, practiced some form of molecular modeling.

FRESHMAN CHEMISTRY is arguably an important course, one that needs to be viewed as a contribution beyond a service level. It affords the opportunity to make the case, to many students of varied disciplines, of why chemistry is the central science and is responsible for virtually all of the high-tech developments they encounter or read about. The course should be a vehicle to attract more students to chemistry. More importantly, it should instill greater respect for and appreciation of chemistry by students who will not necessarily specialize in it. In our view, this function is particularly important for engineering students, as they will frequently use the basic ideas in freshman chemistry in their professional lives, yet they often wonder where the connection is while they are exposed to these ideas in the classroom.

Theme Chemistry as the Central Science and its Implementation in Future Research Fields... 

It is a matter of immense pleasure to know that the Chemistry Department of the MM University, Mullana-Ambala is going to organize a National Conference on Recent Advances in Chemical Sciences with the theme of Chemistry as the Central Science and its Implementation in Future Research Fields on 11-12 Nov. 2016. 

A healthy discussion on a topic like Chemistry as the Central Science is certainly a need of the hour, particularly when new viruses and diseases, environmental pollution and need to device new green synthetic procedures are posing a challenge to the mankind. I am sure that deliberations during the conference will be academically rewarding for the participants and the recommendations will be useful to all the stakeholders. 

The theme of conference is "Chemistry as the Central Science and its Implementation in Future Research Fields". The major aim of the conference is to provide a forum for scientists, teachers, and students from all over the world to participate in and discuss the recent developments in chemical sciences, promote the exchange of ideas, and create an opportunity for budding young scientists to get exposed to the excitement of research in chemistry. 

Chemistry is the central science in the sense that it provides the tie between physics on the one hand and biology on the other. The world of physics, seen broadly, covers a wide spectrum. In general, the concerns of physics focus on entities smaller or larger than those of direct interest to chemistry. At the micro level physics unravels the mysteries of the elementary particles, known generally as fermions, which constimte all ordinary matter. Fermions include the quarks and their antiparticles, the antiquarks. There are six kinds of quarks, known as top, bottom, strange, charm,...

How can we mobilize to be most effective This workshop is a great start. I was very impressed when I heard Alice Gast give a Board on Chemical Sciences and Technology briefing back in October because, in fact, chemistry is the central science, and it will be in the nation s response.
