75-73-0 Tetrafluoromethane

Simple asphyxiant. In asphyxia imconsciousness can be immediate. When it develops over time, symptoms can include heavy breathing, rapid pulse rate, fatigue, faulty judgement, nausea, vomiting, fainting. [Pg.573]

Stable under normal conditions of temperature and pressure. Decomposition may release fluorine, lower flnorides of sulfnr and snUhr oxides depending upon conditions. [Pg.573]

Provide general ventilation. Use snpplied air respirator operated in pressure demand or positive pressure mode. If there is opportunity for contact with liquid then splash proof goggles, face shield, gloves, and impervious clothing should be worn. [Pg.573]

Ventilate area. Disperse gas from low lying areas where it may collect. Stop leak if it can be done without risk. [Pg.573]

No occupational exposure limits established by OSHA, NtOSH, or ACGIH. [Pg.574]

Tetrafluoroethylene was first synthesized in 1933 from tetrafluoromethane, CF, in an electric arc furnace (11). Since then, a number of routes have been developed (12—18). Depolymerization of PTFE by heating at ca 600°C is probably the preferred method for obtaining small amounts of 97% pure monomer on a laboratory scale (19,20). Depolymerization products contain highly toxic perfluoroisobutylene and should be handled with care. [Pg.348]

Thermal decomposition is a major route to smaller perfluonnated molecules Tetrafluoroethylene pyrolyzed at 1100-1300 °C with carbon dioxide gives a mixture of tetrafluoromethane (19 9%), hexafluoroethane (61 3%), and carbonyl fluoride (18 6%) [87]... [Pg.919]

Tetrafluoromethane plasma modified polyethylenes indicate two mechanisms degradation and fluorination. These reactions are competitive and parallel [42]. [Pg.527]

Chemical Reactions. Its thermal decompn in toluene gives N and hexafluoroethane plus small amts of tetrafluoromethane and tetrafluoro-ethylene (Ref 8). Photolysis of the gas gives... [Pg.85]

Self-Tfst 5.2B Suggest a reason why trifluoromethane, CHF3, has a higher boiling point than tetrafluoromethane, CF4. [Pg.305]

From literature sources, find the critical pressures and temperatures of methane, methylamine (CH jNH2), ammonia, and tetrafluoromethane. Discuss the suitability of using each... [Pg.472]

Write the balanced chemical equation for the complete fluorination of methane to tetrafluoromethane. Using bond enthalpies, estimate the enthalpy of this reaction. The corresponding reaction using chlorine is much less exothermic. To what can this difference be attributed ... [Pg.868]

In a dichlorodifluoromethane system, frictional wear exposed fresh metal surfaces on an aluminium compressor impellor, causing an exothermic reaction which melted much of the impellor. Later tests showed similar results, decreasing in order of intensity, with tetrafluoromethane chlorodifluoromethane bromotrifluoromethane dichlorodifluoromethane 1,2-difluorotetrafluoroethane ... [Pg.32]
