When loading this test piece with force F it is noticed that, unlike in the tensile shear test, the force is not applied to an area A (= b x fu), but to a line X... X. The other area of the adhesive layer remains unstressed. Thus, in this case strength cannot be defined as force per area , but the force referring to a line is called peel resistance. If the test piece shown in Figure 10.5 is tom apart by means of force F, and the force over the peeled distance is recorded, the following peel diagram results (Figure 10.6).

Only 5 of the 22 adhesive layers fulfilled the standard requirements they suffered less than 5% delamination. Three of them had exhibited plastic behaviour in the tensile shear test, whilst the other two had exhibited elastic behaviour ... 

The current European standards for wood-based panels deal with evaluation of properties of end-products such as internal bond strength or bending strength. In case of plywood, the bonding quality can be evaluated by tensile shear testing according to EN 314-1 (2005) [1]. These properties are fully linked to adhesives used and process parameters. Nevertheless, no standard exists in Europe for the assessment of adhesives for wood-based panels.

For tensile shear tests, aluminum alloy LY-12-CZ and cold rolled steel pieces of 0.5mm x 20mm x 60mm were used. The aluminum was etched in a K2Cr20. -H2SO bath, and the... 

Incorporation of the E-30 component usually improves the elongation at break but lowers the modulus and the strength of the resin. However, there was no simple relationship between adhesive performance and bulk properties of the resin. With respect to the tensile shear tests, a strength maximum at room temperature was found in the range of 30 to 40 phr E-30 (Fig. 3).

Where applicable, perhaps try D-3164 (tensile shear test for adhesively bonded plastic lap joints) with cyclic stressing.

One of or both material is (are) peeled off in a tensile machine, under a constant speed of separation, which is usually much higher (300-500 mm/min) than for the tensile shear test.
