Tenderness slice

We had one of the club s special Martinis in the lounge— or rather I did, Azzam taking tomato juice. Then we moved to a small private dining room and spent two hours over a most excellent lunch pancakes wrapped round a filling of spiced meat, tender slices of beef with an assortment of vegetables, Egyptian sweets with little cakes, and the best coffee I encountered in the Middle East. [Pg.70]

Boil the potatoes in their skins in water (salted, in you prefer) for about 15 minutes, or until they re barely tender. While the potatoes cook, dice the peppers, celery, and eggs and slice the pimentos. Allow the potatoes to cool, then cut them into chunks. Mix all the ingredients with mayonnaise to taste. Sprinkle the potato salad with paprika. [Pg.261]

Slice the top off the garlic head, exposing the top of each clove. Place in a small baking dish (or on a sheet of foil). Drizzle with a small amount of olive oil and cover (or wrap). Bake for 45 to 60 minutes, or until garlic is tender. Let cool, then scoop cloves into a small bowl and mash. [Pg.153]

PDA (Potato Dextrose Yeast Agar) Wash 250 grams of unpeeled potatoes and slice them 1/8 inch thick. Wash these several times in cool tap water until the water is clear. Drain the slices in a collander and rinse once with distilled water. Cook the potato slices in distilled water until tender. Strain the cooking liquids through a flannel cloth or several layers of cheesecloth and collect the liquid in a flask. Rinse the boiled potatoes... [Pg.10]

Compared with other subjects, chemistry is commonly believed to be more difficult, at least at the introductory level. There is some justification for this perception for one thing, chemistry has a very specialized vocabulary. However, even if this is your first course in chemistry, you already have more familiarity with the subject than you may realize. In everyday conversations we hear words that have a chemical connection, although they may not be used in the scientifically correct sense. Examples are electronic, quantum leap, equilibrium, catalyst, chain reaction, and critical mass. Moreover, if you cook, then you are a practicing chemist From experience gained in the kitchen, you know that oil and water do not mix and that boiling water left on the stove will evaporate. You apply chemical and physical principles when you use baking soda to leaven bread, choose a pressure cooker to shorten the time it takes to prepare soup, add meat tenderizer to a pot roast, squeeze lemon juice over sliced... [Pg.7]

However, such approaches may simply be misdirecting our efforts towards the allocation of blame and the production of reams of near-miss paperwork, rather than taking a closer look at how we structure and manage our work contractually - to look beyond over-simplistic causal chains and instead focus more closely on the bigger picture - the construction site contexts of Chapter 2. We need to ensure that the hidden influences of time and money, the manifestation of Dekker s (2006) latent defects in our construction industry systems of work, are put in their correct place within the cause and effect chains, and in the way we think about safety. We need to shift our understandings away from the sharp end at the site level, and move them up into the board-rooms where decisions to take a slice off the tender price or a month or two off the programme can result in pressures for speed and productivity that creates an unhealthy context for work on sites. The way this thinking manifests in site practice, examined from the perspectives of the workers themselves, is explored in much more detail in Chapter 6. [Pg.54]

The use of subcontracting, sub-subcontracting and sub-sub-subcontracting (as noted in Chapter 2) creates supply chains along which production pressures flow, and ever increase as another slice of profit it taken from each tender price the lower it goes ... [Pg.119]

Meats Tender cuts of beef, lamb, and veal sliced chicken liver crisp bacon. Fried, smoked, pickled, or cored meets fat sausages ham salami wieners. [Pg.1031]

Bake for 50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender. To test, poke a paring knife into the center of the pie to make sure the apples offer no resistance. If the pie needs a few more minutes, you can cover the crust with foil to keep it from browning too much. Cool slightly before slicing to allow the juices to set. [Pg.91]

His wife.. . . However, they were perfectly satisfied with each other. In spite of the fact that more than eight years had elapsed since their marriage, they always used to press upon each other various titbits such as a slice of apple, a sweet or a nut, and address each other in touchingly tender tones— Open your little mouth, darling, here is a morsel for you. Of course, on these occasions, the little mouth would open very gracefully. They always... [Pg.22]
