Telecommunications communication, 377 defined

In any discussion of wireless systems employing a cellular-type architecture, the terms cell site, macrocell, microcell, and even picocell, are often used. A precise definition of each term is not possible because even standards bodies, such as the Telecommunications Industry Association, or industry associations such as CTIA or the Personal Communications Industry Association (PCIA) have not officially defined each term. Macrocells, microcells, and picocells are all considered to be cell sites in the cellular network architecture and the following definition does exist for a cell site. [Pg.1776]

The Act defines a telecommunications system as a service for carrying communications, by means of guided or unguided electromagnetic energy or both, the use of which enables communications to be carried over a telecommunications system operated by a carrier but not being a service for carrying communications solely by means of radio communication. [Pg.175]
