Teflon strands

The spacer in cell B was 0.5 mm thick the cell diameter was 22 mm. The glass plates were fitted with a hinge and suspended by teflon strands in a glass vessel over P2O5, with the hinged plate... [Pg.131]

Steel [52013-36-2] suture is made from 316-L stainless steel wire. The suture may be monofilament, known as fixation wire, or multifilament twisted wires. The steel is heat-treated to improve ductility. The multifilament strands are either uncoated, or coated with Teflon (polytetrafluoroethylene) or Teflon-fluorinated ethylene—propylene copolymer. [Pg.269]

A recent innovative machine-room-less traction elevator (ISIS) from ThyssenKrupp takes full advantage of the properties of p-aramid in the design of the hoist cable and associated traction sheaves [130-133]. The cable has three times the life of a steel rope, is smaller in size, and weighs 90% less than a steel rope at a comparable strength rating. The smaller size permits the use of smaller sheaves thereby decreasing torque requirements and operating costs. No lubrication is required because the inner strands are Teflon coated. Finally, the cable transmits less noise and provides a smoother, quieter ride. [Pg.1020]

Figure 4 Sensitive protein detection using the RCA (rolling circle amplification) immunoassay chip and solid-phase direct fluorescence detection. The chip is divided into 16 teflon wells, each containing an array of 256 antibodies as probes. When a protein, represented by the blue square, is captured by one of the probes, it can be recognized using a second, biotinylated antibody (red), which is subsequentiy detected by a tertiary universal antibody connected to a circular oligonucleotide. A strand-displacing DMA polymerase can use this circular template, generating a long concatemer containing many fluorescent labels. There are strong forces between the different strands of polymers in Teflon, so they tend to form single chains that pack closely together. [Pg.265]

The cover picture depicts the combustion flame of Magnesium/Teflon TM/HycarTM strand (photographed by Andrzej Koleczko, Fraunhofer ICT, Germany) superimposed on the assumed main combustion step between difluorocarbene and magnesium. [Pg.346]
