Technologies of the self

What can I do, what power can I claim and what resistances may I encounter What can I be, with what folds can I surround myself or how can I produce myself as a subject On these three questions, the T does not designate a universal but a set of particular positions occupied with a One speaks, One sees. One confronts. One lives Deleuze, Foucault, 114-15. For an excellent, but difficult, reading of Foucault s theory of subjectivity and technologies of the self, see the chapter Foldings, or the Inside of Thought (Subjectivation), 94-123. [Pg.208]

The technology of silicon and germanium production has developed rapidly, and knowledge of the self-diffusion properties of these elements, and of impurity atoms has become reasonably accurate despite the experimental difficulties associated with the measurements. These arise from the chemical affinity of these elements for oxygen, and from the low values of the diffusion coefficients. [Pg.223]

This book does not follow a chronological sequence but rather builds up in a hierarchy of complexity. Some basic principles of 51V NMR spectroscopy are discussed this is followed by a description of the self-condensation reactions of vanadate itself. The reactions with simple monodentate ligands are then described, and this proceeds to more complicated systems such as diols, -hydroxy acids, amino acids, peptides, and so on. Aspects of this sequence are later revisited but with interest now directed toward the influence of ligand electronic properties on coordination and reactivity. The influences of ligands, particularly those of hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl amine, on heteroligand reactivity are compared and contrasted. There is a brief discussion of the vanadium-dependent haloperoxidases and model systems. There is also some discussion of vanadium in the environment and of some technological applications. Because vanadium pollution is inextricably linked to vanadium(V) chemistry, some discussion of vanadium as a pollutant is provided. This book provides only a very brief discussion of vanadium oxidation states other than V(V) and also does not discuss vanadium redox activity, except in a peripheral manner where required. It does, however, briefly cover the catalytic reactions of peroxovanadates and haloperoxidases model compounds. [Pg.257]

Regimented arrays of Ge dots have been deposited on pre-patterned Si (100) surfaces by LPCVD. The Ge dots exhibit a narrower size distribution and an improved luminescence efficiency compared to islands grown on non-pattemed areas of the same sample. Narrow, phonon resolved PL was observed from ordered dot arrays, indicating a low defect density in the structures. The transfer of the technology of templated self assembly from MBE to CVD is promising for future application in nanoelectronic devices. [Pg.430]

The ideal silicone adhesive is one that is self-primed. The adhesion promoter is included in the formulation and is generally part of the curing reaction system. This is the most desired type of adhesive as it provides adhesion without the need for a complicated pre-Ueatment procedure. All the art and technology of a self-priming polymeric system resides in the choice and chemical design of the adhesion promoter molecules. [Pg.468]

Acknowledgments Our investigation of the self-assembly of triblock copolymers has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the Australian Department of Industry, Technology, and Commerce. [Pg.150]

The concept of the SELF (Standard ELectronic File) format was developed in 1998-2002 by the Task Group on Standard Physico-Chemical Data Formats (lUCOSPED) of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (lUPAC) and the Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA) in cooperation with the International Council of Scientific and Technical Information (ICSTI). A data portal, called DataExplorer (Fachinformationszentrum, Karlsruhe, Germany), implemented SELFs for a variety of physico-chemical properties. The structure of the SELFs in this volume follows the general format of lUCOSPED SELFs. [Pg.5]
