Tannins cinchona

Condensed tannins are formed by condensation of catechin units. These types of tannins are also known as phalbatannins. They are powerful antioxidants and are present in Vitis vinifera, Cinchona officinalis. Acacia catechu, Lawsonia inermis and Pinus sylvestris. They have been discussed in chapter 6. [Pg.145]

If vomiting have not occurred in cases of acute antimonial poisoning it should be provoked by warm water, or the stomach should be evacuated by the pump. Tannin in some form (decoction of oak bark, cinchona, Butgalls, tea) should then be given with a view to rendering any remaining poison insoluble. [Pg.125]

QnmoTANNic Acm, a tannin existing in cinchona barks, probably in combination with the alkaloids. It is a light yellow substance soluble in water, alcohol, and ether its taste is astringent, but not bitter. Dilute H. SO decomposes it at a boiling temperatim, into glucose and a red substance —quinova red ... [Pg.201]

C20H24N2O2, Mr 324.42 cryst. bitter substance, mp. 177 °C (as trihydrate mp. 57 °C), [a]o - 117° (CHCI,), Q. is a quinoline alkaloid, poorly soluble in water, readily soluble in organic solvents (alcohol, chloroform). It dissolves in oxygen-containing acids with a blue fluorescence like quinidine. Like other Cinchona alkaloids Q. forms soluble salts in plants, especially with quinic acid and tannins, e.g., as quinine citrate. The sulfate and hydrochloride of Q. are used in therapy. Q. is also used in racemate separations. "Quini-... [Pg.540]

He used burning phosphorus in eudiometry. He gave an extract from de Morveau s article Air in the Encyclopedie and a summary of Lavoisier s Traitey and also published papers on vegetation (1792), on the theory of heat, on the salubrity of air (1792), on cinnabar (1802) and on quinquina, in which he found that an extract of cinchona bark is precipitated by tannin and hence erroneously supposed that the active principle is gelatin. Seguin s best work is on tannin. [Pg.65]
