Tablets detergent bleaches

Lye is used in household drain cleaners, ammonia, automatic dishwasher detergents, Clinitest tablets, oven cleaners, and bleaches. It is also used in the manufacture of soaps and cleaners and in chemical synthesis. [Pg.1563]

In contrast to sensitive preformed peracids, bleach activators are safe to handle and, in granulated form, reasonably storage-stable in alkaline detergent powders or tablets. Bleach activators are organic compounds having at least one reactive acyl group R-CO (peracid precursor group), which... [Pg.379]

The use of oxygen bleaches in powder detergents has a long history in Europe. As early as 1907, a mixture of perborate, silicate, and soap was sold as the first HDPD. Used at boiling temperature, it saved time and effort, and rapidly became a tremendous market success. As a consequence of the oil crisis in the 1970s, bleach activator technology was introduced, which allowed wash temperatures to be reduced from 90 to 60°C without performance shortfalls. Now more than 80% of all European HDPDs contain TAED. Properties of HDPDs and tablets are given in Table 16.3. [Pg.401]

Monoesterquats based on dimethylethanolamine [94] have been suggested in a number of patent applications for use in granular detergents, in the presence of other additives like anionic, nonionic, or zwitterionic surfactants, enzymes, various soil release polymers, and hydrophobic bleach additives. These compositions showed improved detergency on specific stains [82,95-101]. Esterquat-containing formulations for detergent compositions (powder, liquid, or tablet) are described [102]. [Pg.366]
