A typical cottonseed crushing operation will separate the seed into oil [160 kg/t (320 Ibs/t)], hulls [260 kg/t (540 Ibs/t)], meal [455 kg/t (910 Ibs/t)], and linters [83.5 kg/t (167 Ibs/t)] (1). The hulls and meal are sources of vegetable protein feed for animals and the linters are used as a chemical cellulose source in personal care products, in batting for upholstered furniture and mattresses, and in high-quality paper (2).

The method of 1-hulls [351] is based on a generalization of the concept of convex hull. The convex hull of a set A is the smallest convex set that contains A. Consider a three-dimensional body T. The T-hull of a point set A is the intersection of all rotated and translated versions of T which contain A. The T-hull method is suitable for shape comparisons with a common reference shape, chosen as that of the body T. Alternatively, when the shapes of two molecules, T and A are compared, one molecular body can be chosen as T and the T-hull of the other molecular body A provides a direct shape comparison [351].

The main ship parameters include ship draft, T, hull shape as represented by the block coefficient, Cb, and ship speed. Vs (m/s) or Vk (knots).
