Surface wavelength

Figure 7.2 illustrates a detector at a temperature T above its surroundings. If radiation at a power density Wt/A is incident on the face for a time At, the energy absorbed is rjWi At. The emissivity ij is for the particular surface, wavelength and... [Pg.413]

Microstructured surfaces, as well as micromachined substrates and devices discussed in Sects. II, III, and iy are suitable for a number of applications. They include reflective and absorbing surfaces, wavelength-sensitive filters, multiaperture lens arrays and Fresnel microoptics, field emitter arrays, precision apertures, or molds for microstructured surfaces of other materials. Microstructured alumina ceramics can also be used for tuned broadband infrared emitters. In addition, due to the robustness at high temperatures and well-developed and controlled porosity, the freestanding, heat-treated micromachined anodic alumina substrates can be used for the fabrication of sensors that incorporate a high temperature microheater with low power consumption. [Pg.244]

Because only surface wavelengths A in the order of the wavelength of light or larger are of importance here, the system can be treated on a quasi-macroscopic scale. Furthermore, jflsurface fluctuations can be linearized, resulting in uncoupled Fourier components. [Pg.343]

From the theory of waves on single surfaces (for a review, see Ref. 85) it was known that for small values of surface wavelength A (i.e., large values of K), the relaxation of the waves was dominated by the action of surface tension. In the case of thin films, also, the effect of interaction forces was expected to influence the relaxation of the film to its mean thickness. Especially, the squeezing mode relaxation, where local thickness fluctuations appear, should show up the influence of colloidal interactions. [Pg.356]

We are interested in < E (0[,(t)i)E3(62,, where <> means the average over the ensemble of surfaces, the subindexes 1 and 2 refer to two different points of observation and the subindexes A and B belong to two different conditions of illumination, which for example arise from two different wavelengths, two different incident angles, etc.. If A = B and 1 = 2, the above expression gives the angular distribution of the mean scattered intensity, otherwise it turns to be the intensity correlation coefficient y from < E Eb >, assuming that we deal with fully developed speckle. [Pg.664]

For times below about 5 msec a correction must be made to allow for the fact that the surface velocity of the liquid in the nozzle is zero and takes several wavelengths to increase to the jet velocity after emerging from the nozzle. Correction factors have been tabulated [107, 108] see also Ref. 109. [Pg.34]

One hundred milliliters of an aqueous solution of methylene blue contains 3.0 mg dye per liter and has an optical density (or molar absorbancy) of 0.60 at a certain wavelength. After the solution is equilibrated with 25 mg of a charcoal the supernatant has an optical density of 0.20. Estimate the specific surface area of the charcoal assuming that the molecular area of methylene blue is 197 A. ... [Pg.420]

There have been a few other experimental set-ups developed for the IR characterization of surfaces. Photoacoustic (PAS), or, more generally, photothemial IR spectroscopy relies on temperature fluctuations caused by irradiating the sample with a modulated monocliromatic beam the acoustic pressure wave created in the gas layer adjacent to the solid by the adsorption of light is measured as a fiinction of photon wavelength... [Pg.1785]
