Supply Chain Traceability of Goods and Services

All companies worry about their supply chain and how they impact their operations. This section describes how system safety should be involved in the supply chain. It should describe how vendors along the entire supply chain are selected, vetted, and managed and safety requirements are assured. 

Working with anhydrous ammonia, I learned the hard way how important understanding where my valve soft goods came from and exactly what material they were made from. The soft goods supplier claimed that they were anhydrous ammonia compatible after testing and a big mess in our piping system, I found out they were not. Lessons learned— validate any uncertainties in the supply chain that could impact safety ahead of time.
