Sulphur, 339 table liquids

Use the table to answer these questions, a What is the melting point of iron b Which element melts at —7 C c Which element boils at 280 C d Which element has a boiling point only 1 C higher than its melting point e Over what temperature range is sulphur a liquid ... [Pg.39]

Ethyl salicylate. Use 28 g. of salicylic acid, 84 g. (106 ml.) of absolute ethyl alcohol and 8 ml. of concentrated sulphuric acid. Reflux the mixture for at least 5 hours. The yield of ethyl salicylate (a colourless liquid), b.p. 231-234°, is 26 g. It is more convenient in practice to distil the liquid under reduced pressure the boiling points under various pressures are given in Table II, 19. [Pg.783]

Hazards arising from the oxidation of organic compounds are greater when the reactants are volatile, or present as a dust or an aerosol. Liquid oxygen and various concentrated acids, e.g. nitric, sulphuric or perchloric acid, and chromic acid are strong oxidizing agents. The use of perchloric acid or perchlorates has resulted in numerous explosions their use should be avoided when possible (refer to Table 6.5). [Pg.159]

Table V summarises the data of the sulphur analysis of the hydrocracked liquids and the various bpt fractions for CoMo and NiMo catalysed experiments. The sulphur contents of neither the total hydrocracked liquids nor the individual bpt fractions showed any dependence on repeat contact or catalyst type. The values did show that the sulphur concentrated in the recycle solvent fraction (275-450°C), suggesting that, even under the relatively strong conditions used, certain sulphur-containing compounds will survive to be recycled in the solvent However, the sulphur content of the coal liquid feed was reduced by about 50% and the sulphur content of the likely upgradable product was low. The temperature coefficients of electrical conductivity (Tables 6-9 have well-defined maxima in the region of 30-50 mole % of sulphuric acid, which arise primarily from the shift of the equilibria in the liquid phase with temperature, but also from changes in ionic mobilities. [Pg.541]

Liquid sulphur dioxide is a colourless mobile fluid which boils at — 10-02+0-1° C. at 760 mm. 1 the density varies considerably with the temperature,2 as indicated in the following table ... [Pg.112]

The last polymer mentioned in Table 10.9 is poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide). This polymer is spun from its solution in pure sulphuric acid (100%), a dope that exhibits mesomorphic (=liquid crystalline) behaviour it is optically anisotropic and is nematic in character. A number of other polymers, containing rigid elements in the chain have melts of polymer liquid crystals, with a high birefringence and a non-linear optical behaviour in electric fields. [Pg.308]

Their Tables 2 and 3 show that except for the work of Lichtin and Pappas, carried out in liquid sulphur dioxide, the values of the disarciation constant for reliable studies in chlorinated hydrocarbons are quite independent of the counterion. Thus, K[Pg.190]
