Miscellaneous Methods of Preparation.— This Chapter is interwoven with accounts of the reactions of sulphur, selenium, and tellurium compounds which amount to the conversion of one sulphur-containing functional group into another. This small section is included to collect together a variety of methods for the synthesis of sulphides from sulphur compounds other than those mentioned in the preceding sections. 

The reactions of the phenolic hydroxyl group which have been included in this chapter comprise esterification with carboxylic acids and related reactants, with inorganic materials, with replacements producing nitrogen, sulphur and halogen-containing compounds, procedures for removal of the OH group and miscellaneous reactions. 

Sulphonium ylides react with a variety of miscellaneous electrophilic reagents. Barney has reported that dimethylsulphoniumcyclopenta-dienylide (3) will form complexes with a variety of metal salts, such as Hgl2, ZnCU, and AgNOa, with some co-ordination occurring with the ring and some with the sulphur. Dimethylsulphoniumphenacylide reacted with isopropyl nitrite to afford the bromo-keto-oxime (52), probably the result of ylide attack on nitrogen, isomerization of the nitroso-compounds to... 

Miscellaneous Compounds. Hajjar and MacWood deduced Bp of sulphur hexafluoride at 70 and 100 °C from measurements of gas density at low pressure. Mears et al. measured the density of sulphur hexafluoride (25 to 130 °C, 10 to 75 bar) and expressed the results in terms of a Martin-Hou equation of state they also compared derived values of B and C with literature values. Haworth and Sutton measured Bp of trimethylamine at 25 °C.
