Isopropyl nitrite

The reactants are fed separately iato a stUl, from which the product is continuously removed by distillation (qv) (31). Isopropyl nitrate is a valuable engiae-starter fuel and can be used ia explosives (see Explosives and propellants) (32). The nitrite ester, isopropyl nitrite, can be prepared from the reaction of isopropyl alcohol and either nitrosyl chloride or nitrous acid at ambient temperature (33). The ester is used as a jet engine propellant (30). [Pg.106]

According to Merck (Ref 5), ... isopropyl nitrite can cause vasodilation with fall in blood pressure, tachycardia, headache. Large doses can cause methemoglobinuria with cyanosis. Severe poisoning results in shock which can end fatally. . [Pg.968]

Bottles of isopropyl nitrite decomposed dining refrigerated storage, developing enough internal pressure to burst the containers and blow open the refrigerator door. Other alkyl nitrites lower than amyl nitrite may be expected to behave similarly. [Pg.450]

Any alkyl nitrite may be employed. The submitters preferred the use of isopropyl nitrite, since the low boiling point of the isopropyl alcohol formed facilitates its removal. [Pg.14]

Isopropyl nitrite may be prepared according to the procedure given for w-butyl nitrite.1... [Pg.14]

In another process, 13-oxabicyclo[10.4.0]hexadec-l(12)-ene is reacted with isopropyl nitrite to give 12-oxo-15-pentadecanolide, which is hydrogenated to the corresponding hydroxy compound. The hydroxy group is derivatized and the reaction product py roly zed to the unsaturated lactone. Hydrogenation of the latter yields 15-pentadecanolide [204]. [Pg.156]
