Sulfur ratio, oxygen

The compound, S02, and the sample of S8 mixed with 02 both contain the elements, sulfur and oxygen, but S02 sample contains S and O in the definite ratio of 1 2 in each molecule and the individual gaseous S02 molecules are far apart. The mixture of S8 and 02 contains solid sulfur and molecular oxygen and the ratio of S to O can be variable. The mixture is heterogeneous, because S8(s) and O2(g) are present in different phases. [Pg.20]

Previous analysis of Uinta Basin bitumens (6,10) have shown that the predominant nitrogen types are pyrollic, amide, and aromatic nitrogen. Predominant sulfur types are sulfide, sulfoxide, and thiophenic sulfur predominant oxygen types are ketones, phenols, carboxylic acids, and possibly appreciable concentrations of furans. The aromatic (basic) nitrogen is expected to participate in irreversible adsorption on acidcracking catalysts (13) and it could require an increased cat-to-oil ratio. Previous analyses (10) have indicated also that Uinta Basin bitumen is high in naphthenic hydrocarbon and low in free paraffins. This is illustrated by the results given in Table II in which over 60% of the saturates... [Pg.74]

Sulfur burning s product gas composition and temperature are readily controlled by adjusting the sulfur furnace s input air/input sulfur ratio. Replacement of some of the input air with oxygen gives the process independent 02/S02, temperature and volume control. [Pg.29]

There is 60.0% oxygen by mass in a compound of sulfur and oxygen. Percent by mass is a ratio of the number of grams of a particular component to 100 g of the total sample. How many grams of sulfur are in a 14.6-g sample of the compound ... [Pg.80]

The ratio of masses of sulfur and oxygen in sulfur dioxide is 1.0 g to 1.0 g. Is this fact a proof of the law of multiple proportions ... [Pg.106]

For SH, with a calculated spin-orbit interaction of 162 cm-1 between the A2E+ and 4II states (Wheeler, et al, 1997), the ratio between the interaction strengths for SH and OH is in good agreement with the ratio of the atomic spin-orbit constants of sulfur and oxygen, namely about 2.5. [Pg.530]

An alternate method for determining the screw-sense specificity is to use chir-ally sulfur-substituted nucleotides together with Mg [which prefers to coordinate oxygen rather than sulfur by a ratio of 31,000 (22)] and a metal ion such as Cd [which prefers sulfur over oxygen by a factor of 60 (22)]. The preference for one isomer of ATP/3S over the other as the metal ion is switched defines the screw-sense specificity, since the screw sense of the majority of the complex in solution will differ with Mg or Cd. This method requires that the sulfur-substituted nucleotide be very free from ATP (which often reacts much faster than the sulfur analog) and that V/K values, as well as V values, be compared. The reader should consult Refs. (31 and 32) for more details. [Pg.111]

Compound-specific isotope analysis Determination of the isotopic ratio of the carbon, nitrogen, hydrogen, sulfur, or oxygen contents of a single compound. The isolation of the single compound is usually achieved by some form of either off-line or on-line preparation in which gas chromatography is an important step. [Pg.451]
