Iodides sulfur

Sulfur iodides are a topic of considerable current interest, although compounds containing S-I bonds were, in fact, unknown until fairly recently. The failure to prepare sulfur iodides by direct reaction of the elements probably reflects the comparative weakness of the S-I bond an experimental value is not available but extrapolation from representative values for the bond energies of other S-X bonds leads to a value of 170kJmol ...

The existence of sulfur iodides is controversial, although S2I2 may be genuine. The best evidence for S—I bonds is in [S7I+][SbF6 ] and [(S7I)2I3+][SbF6]3, prepared from reaction of iodine with sulfur in SbF5 solution. Comparable Se6I+ cations are also known.

Sulfur Iodide, lodosulfane. Approx SI. Obtained by fusing together 4 parts iodine with 1 part sulfur. It probably contains free iodine as well as free sulfur. 

Selective separation of gold from many ions by liquid chromatography on columns of Amberlite XAD4 impregnated with (5,4-dimethylaminoben-zylidene-rhodamine) (DMABR) was achieved by Chien et al. [144]. Trace Au(III) (<0.1 ppb) was sorbed at pH 0-1 and was eluted by 0.02 M cyanide solutions at pH 7. Au can be determined in the eluate by atomic absorption or neutron activation. Mercury ions and various anions (thiosulfate, sulfur, iodide, etc.) interfere.
