Sulfonated bisphenol

Polyether sulfones can be prepared by the reaction of the sodium or potassium salt of bisphenol A and 4,4-dichlorodiphenyl sulfone. Bisphenol A acts as a nucleophile in the presence of the deactivated aromatic ring of the dichlorophenylsulfone. The reaction may also be catalyzed with Friedel-Crafts catalysts the dichlorophenyl sulfone acts as an electrophile ... [Pg.340]

Block copolymers comprising carbonate and arylene ether blocks have been prepared by the catalytic decarboxylation of random or alternating copolycarbonates. This novel route to block copolymers is catalyzed by a number of catalysts and requires only that one of the bisphenols in the starting copolycarbonates be activated by electron-withdrawing substituents, e.g. 4,4 -dihydroxydiphenyl sulfone (bisphenol S), or 4,4 -dihydroxybenzophenone (bisphcnol K). [Pg.143]

Besides the use of dihalo sulfonated monomers, the Guiver group introduced several commercial sulfonated bisphenol monomers to prepare SPEK polymers. For example, sodium 6,7-dihydroxy-2-naphthalenesulfonate (DFINS) was purchased from Rintech, Inc. and recrystallized before use. The sulfonated poly(arylene ether ether ketone ketone) copolymer containing pendant sulfonic acid groups was... [Pg.213]

Stain-resist agents related to syntans are condensation products of formaldehyde with aromatic compounds, including phenols, 4,4 -diphenyl sulfone, p-phe-nolsulfonic acid, sulfonated naphthalene, and sulfonated bisphenol (Fig. 14.7). The condensates contain sulfonic acid groups or are sulfonated after the condensation reaction [44-54]. A polycondensation of a phenolsulfonic acid with formaldehyde may involve desulfonation and consequent cross-linking [55]. Because the condensation reactions are complex, the formaldehyde condensates used as stain-resist agents are mixtures of several components [56]. [Pg.594]
