Sulfentrazone herbicide

Sulfentrazone is a broad-spectrum, pre-emergent herbicide that provides good control over broadleaf weeds, grasses and sedges in crops and turf. The metabolism of sulfentrazone in animals and plants is similar. The major plant metabolite of sulfentrazone is 3-hydroxymethyl sulfentrazone (HMS). The soybean tolerance of 0.05 mg kg includes residues of sulfentrazone plus its major metabolite, HMS. The rotational crop tolerance includes residues of sulfentrazone and its major metabolites, HMS and... 

Sulfentrazone is an aryl triazinone broadleaf and sedge herbicide that can be applied preemergence, and/or post-directed up to layby. The maximum total annual rate cannot exceed 0.42kg a.i./ha. 

A number of recent herbicide entries include bencarbazone [185], pyrasulfotole [186], and pyrimisulfan [187], Bencarbazone, whose ISO common name was approved in 2005, has all the features associated with Protox herbicides, particularly that of the Protox herbicide sulfentrazone. Pyrasulfotole is a newly developed herbicide from Bayer CropScience for use on cereals. Pyrimisulfan, a difluoromethylsulfonamide-containing, herbicide, is a new ALS herbicide for the control of perennial weeds.

Brief mention will be made here of the use of fluorinated 1,2,4-triazolones as agrochemical agents. Novel 4-difluoromethyl-l-aryl-l,2,4-tiiazolm-5-ones function as important herbicidal compounds for broad-spectrum weed control for use on such crops as corn, soybean, and wheat. The mode of action has been identified as inhibition of protoporphyrinogen oxidase. Two examples are sulfentrazone 151 and carfentrazone-ethyl 152. The lack of clear selectivity of several commercially significant row crops was overcome following the discovery of several highly active and selective Protox herbicides such as the post-emergence soybean selective herbicide fomesafen 7 (Flex , Flexstar , Reflex ) [1, 2], introduced in 1983 by ICI Plant Protection Division, and the soybean selective pre-emergence herbicides F5231, compound 14 [3-5], and sulfentrazone (15) (Authority , Boral , Capaz ) [6-8] introduced by FMC in 1991.
