Sugar phosphates teichoic acids

Synthesis.—Comprehensive reviews on glycosyl esters of nucleoside pyrc>-phosphates and teichoic acids have appeared in the past year as have details of the preparation of xylulose-5-phosphate using transketolase. Solution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy was introduced by Newman and Tate (1980) to define the structural composition of soil organic phosphorus. The technique allows the identification of several inorganic phosphorus forms (phosphate, pyrophosphate, polyphosphate) and organic phosphorus forms, such as phosphate monoesters (e.g. inositol phosphates and sugar phosphates), phosphate diesters (e.g. nucleic acids, phospholipids, teichoic acids) and phosphonates. 

Phosphate diesters include compounds that the authors named diester-P and additionally phosphonates in the case of Guggenberger ef a/. (1996), sugar-diesters in the case of Mahieu ef a/. (2000) and teichoic acid in the cases of Moller ef a/. (2000) and Solomon ef a/. (2002).
