Subject compound glasses

Boylan and Tripp [76] determined hydrocarbons in seawater extracts of crude oil and crude oil fractions. Samples of polluted seawater and the aqueous phases of simulated samples (prepared by agitation of oil-kerosene mixtures and unpolluted seawater to various degrees) were extracted with pentane. Each extract was subjected to gas chromatography on a column (8 ft x 0.06 in) packed with 0.2% of Apiezon L on glass beads (80-100 mesh) and temperatures programmed from 60 °C to 220 °C at 4°C per minute. The components were identified by means of ultraviolet and mass spectra. Polar aromatic compounds in the samples were extracted with methanol-dichlorome-thane (1 3). 

Films containing about 10% CIRh(PPh3)3 in PMMA were prepared and subjected to oxygen index, TGA, and DSC measurements. The oxygen index, bottom ignition (1 1), increases from about 14 for pure PMMA to about 20 for the rhodium compound in PMMA. TGA analysis indicates that about 25% of the sample is non-volatile at 600°C and the glass transition temperature increases by about 15°C by DSC. 

In this procedure the soil sample (spiked with isotopic marker compounds) is processed in a two-part enrichment procedure (Fig. 5.3). In part I, a mixture of the sample and sodium sulphate is subject to solvent extraction, and the extract is, in the same process, passed through a series of silica-based adsorbents and then through the carbon/glass fibre adsorbent. The extract passes through the adsorbents in the following order potassium silicate, silica gel, cesium or potassium silicate, silica gel and finally an activated-carbon...

When thin films of thiabendazole on glass plates were exposed to sunlight for 128 d, benzimidazole-2-carboxamide and benzimidazole formed as photolysis products. Both compounds also formed when aqueous methanolic solutions of thiabendazole were subjected to UV light for 1 h (Zbozinek, 1984).
