Subject anion exchange resins

To evaluate the degree of microbial growth inhibition caused by the hydrolysate used, Debaryomyces hansenii was grown in detoxified hydrolysates and in a hydrolysate only subjected to a pH correction, both nonsupple-mented and supplemented. As detoxification methods, anion-exchange resins and activated charcoal treatments were chosen because both enable the reduction of most of the fermentation-inhibiting compounds (7,38,39). [Pg.1068]

The suspension polymerized ethenylbenzene—diethenylbenzene copolymer is also the host matrix for most anion exchange resins. The preformed copolymer is subject to two further synthesis steps, first developed by McBurney in 1947, as described below and by Scheme 2.4. [Pg.28]

To analyze 1,2-ethanediol, oxidation with excess IO4 is followed by passage of the reaction solution through an anion-exchange resin that binds both IO4 and IO3. lO is then quantitatively removed from the resin by elution with NH4CI. The absorbance of eluate is measured at 232 nm to find the quantity of 10 J (molar absoiptivity (e) = 9(X) M cm ) produced by the reaction. In one experiment, 0.213 9 g of aqueous 1,2-ethanediol was dissolved in 10.(X) mL. Then 1.000 mL of the solution was treated with 3 mL of 0.15 M KIO4 and subjected to ion-exchange... [Pg.531]

Alpha spectrometry was deployed to determine the concentration of uranium in hair samples collected from 10 Greek monks (Kehagia et al. 2010). The samples were collected from the nape of the neck, rinsed with water and acetone, and air-dried prior to digestion in a microwave oven. The uranium was purified and preconcentrated on an anion exchange resin column, and finally electrodeposited on a stainless steel plate for alpha spectrometry. The detection limit in hair was reported as 5 ng g for 7200 min counting time. The measured uranium concentration among these subjects varied from 12.1 to 170 ng U g hair compared to that measured for staff members that was around 30 ng g . ... [Pg.223]

When RNA is subjected to controlled alkaline hydrolysis eight nucleotides, two isomers each of AMP, GMP, cytosine monophosphate (CMP), and uridine monophosphate (UMP), are formed. These can be separated from one another on columns of anion exchange resins ISl), by paper chromatographic methods 1S2), and by fractional crystallization (iSS). The isomers are the 2 -phosphates ( a ) (XI) and 3 -phosphates ( b ) (XII) which arise from an intermediate cyclic 2, 3 -phosphate mononucleotide ester [Eq. (44)] (1S4-1S6). [Pg.481]
