There is a second family of small lipid-binding proteins, the P2 family, which include among others cellular retinol- and fatty acid-binding proteins as well as a protein, P2, from myelin in the peripheral nervous system. However, members of this second family have ten antiparallel p strands in their barrels compared with the eight strands found in the barrels of the RBP superfamily. Members of the P2 family show no amino acid sequence homology to members of the RBP superfamily. Nevertheless, their three-dimensional structures have similar architecture and topology, being up-and-down P barrels. [Pg.70]

If the metal atoms are not mobile (as is the case in low—temperature reactions) only hydride phases can result in which the metal lattice is structurally very similar to the starting intermetallic compound because the metal atoms are essentially frozen in place. In effect the system may be considered to be pseudo-binary as the metal atoms behave as a single component. [Pg.212]

CA-isoprene rubber cured with bis(dusopropyl)thiophosphoryl disulfide (DIPDIS) shows results at 160°C, producing a predominantly monosulfidic network structure [14]. Similar work on heat-resistant network structures has been carried out on other synthetic rubbers. For example, a sulfur-less system using 1 phr TBBS, 2.0 phr DTDM, and 0.4 phr TMTD in SBR gives the best aging resistance [15]. [Pg.419]

The niobium-arseitic compounds described here, with novel anionic structures, clearly demonstrate the many possibilities for stractural motifs in this system. Similarly high potential for diverse structures and properties should be expected for the heavier pitictides when combined with other transition metals and the alkali-metal group. [Pg.206]

Although FEP is mostly useful for binding type of simulations rather than chemical reactions, it can be valuable for reduction potential and pKa calculations, which are of interest from many perspectives. For example, prediction of reliable pKa values of key groups can be used as a criterion for establishing a reliable microscopic model for complex systems. Technically, FEP calculation with QM/MM potentials is complicated by the fact that QM potentials are non-seperable [78], When the species subject to perturbation (A B) differ mainly in electronic structure but similar in nuclear connectivity (e.g., an oxidation-reduction pair), we find it is beneficial to use the same set of nuclear geometry for the two states [78], i.e., the coupling potential function has the form,... [Pg.181]

The monosulfonated PPh derivative, Ph2P(m-C6H4S03K) (DPM) and its rhodium complex, HRh(CO)(DPM)3 have been synthesized and characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopic techniques. The data showed that the structure was similar to [HRh(CO)(PPh3)3]. The catalytic activity and selectivity of [HRh(CO)(DPM)3] in styrene hydroformylation were studied in biphasic catalytic systems.420 421 Rh1 complexes [Rh(acac)(CO)(PR3)] with tpa (131), cyep (132), (126), ompp (133), pmpp (134), tmpp (135), PPh2(pyl), PPh(pyl)2, and P(pyl)3 were characterized with NMR and IR spectra. Complexes with (131), (132), and (126) were catalysts for hydrogenation of C—C and C—O bonds, isomerization of alkenes, and hydroformylation of alkenes.422 Asymmetric hydroformylation of styrene was performed using as catalyst precursor [Rh(//-0 Me)(COD)]2 associated with sodium salts of m-sulfonated diarylphosphines.423... [Pg.177]

Tropomyosin and troponin are proteins located in the thin filaments, and together with Ca2+, they regulate the interaction of actin and myosin (Fig. 43-3) [5]. Tropomyosin is an a-helical protein consisting of two polypeptide chains its structure is similar to that of the rod portion of myosin. Troponin is a complex of three proteins. If the tropomyosin-troponin complex is present, actin cannot stimulate the ATPase activity of myosin unless the concentration of free Ca2+ increases substantially, while a system consisting solely of purified actin and myosin does not exhibit any Ca2+ dependence. Thus, the actin-myosin interaction is controlled by Ca2+ in the presence of the regulatory troponin-tropomyosin complex [6]. [Pg.717]

In contrast to 6-substituted-bipyridine systems such as 49, attachment of a five-membered heterocycle to the 2-position of 1,10-phenanthroline, which is a structural modification similar to the replacement of one of the terminal rings of terpyridine, does generally bring the ligand field into the crossover region and spin transitions have been observed for such systems when the heterocycle is thiazole 51 [74], imidazoline [75], triazole [76], pyrazole [77] and oxadiazole [78]. [Pg.88]

Type XXVIII collagen belongs to the class of VWA domain-containing proteins. The primary structure is similar to type VI collagen. It is mainly a component of the basement membranes around Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system. ... [Pg.493]
