Structured Packings for Vacuum Rectification

In terms of hydrodynamics, modern column packings are designed for comparably high capacities and use surfaces that promote the separation efficiency. The dominant quantity to which the separation performance parameters are related is the specific surface area defined as packing surface area per packing volume. [Pg.305]

In general, a smaller specific surface area provides higher capacity with less pressure drop but at the expense of a lower separation performance and higher HETP. [Pg.305]

Contrarily, low HETP are achieved from narrow corrugations that usually lead to higher pressure drops per unit height. [Pg.306]
