Structure, story development/changes

It is then not surprising that Spain is absent from L.F. Haber s splendid work on the structural changes of the international, and particularly, interwar chemical industry. The story of Spanish chemical industry between the wars is that of a promising rise, a meritorious development, and a many-sided frustration that political history does not, by itself, explain. 

Lever arms (Figure Ic) are proposed to increase the efficiency of damping devices by magnifying the inter-story drifts and drift velocities, transferred from the structure to dampers (Gluck, 1996). This idea was further developed for design of structures with optimal viscous dampers (Ribakov, 2000). The equivalent lever arm approach is used to change the effect of off the shelf linear viscous devices yielding an optimal passive control system. 

Electrophotographic master proofing is the story of a grandly conceived concept, which involved many scientists, a great deal of money and good research, but ultimately ended in failure. The reasons for this were not only technical, but had to do with the structure of partnerships between large companies, personnel shifts, changes in the market and other factors that had little to do with science. Here is an attempt to review the technical aspects of this development.
