Structural induction

Clarification of existing structure-induction-metabolism relations... [Pg.1321]

The enzyme induction properties of PBDEs have been less studied than for other structurally similar chemicals, but the existing information suggests that they can be classified as mixed-type inducers of hepatic microsomal monooxygenases (Damerud et al. 2001 de Wit 2002 Hardy 2002b). Few studies have examined the structure-induction relationships for PBDEs. Chen et al. (2001) examined the ability of 12 PBDE congeners and 3 commercial mixtures to induce EROD activity in chick and rat hepatocytes, in liver cell lines from rainbow trout, rat, and human, and in a human intestinal cell line. The number of... [Pg.226]

Example 5-12 The following logic algorithm for split L,F,S) has been designed by a totally different method, namely introduction of an additional parameter, plus logic algorithm design by structural induction for the new problem. [Pg.70]

When a logic algorithm is designed by structural induction on some parameter (as in Chapter 4), then predicate r n can be interpreted in any Herbrand model of LA(r). [Pg.86]

Corollary 7-2 If LA r) is designed by structural induction, then LA r) is the complement ofLA r). [Pg.87]

Since we only consider logic algorithms that are designed by structural induction, correctness reduces, by Corollary 7-1, to = UC r), Moreover, partial correctness is achieved iff UCir) (that is, iff the atoms computed by LA r) are correct), and completeness is achieved iff LA r) (that is, iff all the correct atoms are computed by LA r)). These criteria are in the sequel called the intuitive criteria. [Pg.87]

Fig. 3. Top Induction of strand breaks in viral and plasmid DNA. The undamaged (native) form has a supercoiled structure. Induction of a single strand break leads to an open ring form, whereas by induction of a double strand break the molecule is transformed into a linearized form. The linearized form can also result from induction of two single strand breaks in close vicinity (Courtesy S. Brons). Bottom. The three conformations are characterized by different migration velocities in the gel. Fig. 3. Top Induction of strand breaks in viral and plasmid DNA. Thus, it should be clear that in contrast to the conventional computational models—where, as was mentioned above, the defining agenda was logical—I propose that it is the (structural) inductive agenda that should now drive the development of the computational framework. This proposal is not really surprising, given that the new framework is aimed at supporting a continuous dynamic interaction between the machine and various natural environments, where, as was hypothesized above, the temperal/structural nature of object representation is ubiquitous. [Pg.89]

This reaction will not cleave a multiple bond to a heteroatom. For the carbonyl group (Equation 4.25), electron-pair attraction to the charge site yields the canonical resonance structure inductive cleavage of this then gives the alkyl ion and acyl radical. However, these products are the complements of the alkyl radical and acylium ion formed by a-cleavage (Equation 4.14), in contrast to the a- and i-reactions (Equations 4.13 and 4.22) at a saturated heteroatom. [Pg.65]
