The leucomycin complex is comprised of ten factors which differ in the number and type of short-chain acyl substituents on the 3- and 4"-hydroxyl groups [1-3], In the generalized structure depicted in Figure 5.2, R is acetyl or hydrogen, and R is 3-methylbutanoyl (isovaleryl, iVal), n-butyryl, propionyl, acetyl, or hydrogen. The leucomycin complex (also called kitasamycin) was isolated from culture broths of Streptomyces kitasatoensis [18], an organism later reclassified into the genus Streptoverticillium [19]. [Pg.268]
