Generally, research on clearance pricing and inventory decisions assumes that customers are myopic, i.e., they do not exhibit strategic behavior El-maghraby et al [49] is an exception to this. The authors focus on markdown... [Pg.355]

Strategic behavior is another area that holds great promise for future research. In the real world, customers are likely to buy according to expectations of future prices, and this can have important implications for determining pricing decisions. [Pg.380]

It is well known that oil-producing countries often act as political entities, limiting and allowing the production of oil for both political and monopolistic reasons. Research into the strategic behavior of countries and oil groups such as OPEC with respect to the price of oil is well-developed, although the behavior of these groups is obviously determined by demand and supply conditions. That is, any one of the political entities which produces oil not only determines the price of oil, but may react to it. Even OPEC decisions, which are widely understood as independent of the price of oil, are quite possibly determined by it (Barsky Kilian, 2002 125). [Pg.486]

Dynamic pricing can be a powerfnl tool to increase profits if the customers sensitivity to price changes in the course of the season. This is often the case for fashion products, for which customers are less price sensitive early in the season but become more price sensitive toward the end of the season. Dynamic pricing should, however, carefully consider strategic behavior by customers who may anticipate future price drops and delay their purchase. With strategic customers it may be better to have a fixed price or reduce the quantity offered. [Pg.481]

Table 3 contains strategic separations to be considered for crossing distillation boundaries. Many of these can be eliminated after examining the pertinent physical properties and equiUbrium behavior (see Table 4) and referring to the general separation considerations. The results are summarized in Table 5. [Pg.454]

It is apparent from the quantity of material included in this chapter that there is an extensive body of work concerning the utilization of diene and polyene photochemistry in a synthetic setting. The unique behavior of the excited chromophores permits the application of powerful new methods for the construction of complex molecules. Unusual photochemical rearrangements and photocycloaddition pathways often lead to substantial increases in molecular complexity, allowing such processes to serve as key strategic steps in target oriented syntheses. [Pg.319]

Management concepts in the value chain are the generally relevant research fields for the work. Value chain as a term was initially defined by Porter disaggregating a firm into its strategically relevant activities in order to understand the behavior of costs and the existing and potential sources of differentiation . Porter s value chain consists of a "set of activities that are performed to design, produce, market, deliver and support its product (Porter 1985, pp. 33-40). Developed management concept areas for the value chain can be classified by specialization on values, demand or supply ... [Pg.17]
