Storage tanks large sizes

A list of fabrication jobs to be done at site shall be known such as storage tanks large-sized process vessels like converters, absorption towers (which need internal linings) distillation columns (with internal fittings of trays). [Pg.67]

An exact calculation of inventory is difficult in the conceptual design phase, since the size of equipment is not usually known. The mass flows in the process are however known from the design capasity of the process. Therefore it is practical to base the estimation of inventory on mass flows and an estimated residence time. Consequently the inventory has been included to the ISI as a mass flow in the ISBL equipment including recycles with one hour nominal residence time for each process vessel (e.g. reactor, distillation column etc). For large storage tanks the size should be estimated. The total inventory is the sum of inventories of all process vessels. [Pg.70]

When designing a plant, every piece of process equipment should be specified as large enough to do its job, and no larger. We should minimize the size of all raw material and in-process intermediate storage tanks, and question the need for all in-process inventories, particularly of hazardous materials. Minimizing the size of equipment not only enhances inherent process safety, but it can often save money. [Pg.28]

A credible spill for Catastrophic Loss Potential. For a catastrophic loss potential, the spill size should be based on the contents of vessels or connected vessel train. The existence of shutoff valves between vessels should not be considered. In addition, the catastrophic failure of major storage tanks should be considered. Leaks in pipelines carrying materials of concern from large-capacity, off-site, remote storage facilities must be considered. For this purpose, it must be assumed that the pipeline is completely severed and that the spill will run for 30 minutes. [Pg.119]

Single-component adsorption equilibria on activated carbon of the n-alkanes Q-C4 and of the odorant tert-butyl mercaptan were measured at the operating conditions expected in a large-scale facility for adsorbed natural gas (ANG) storage. The experimental data were correlated successfully with the Adsorption Potential theory and collapsed into a single temperature-independent characteristic curve. The obtained isotherm model should prove to be very useful for predicting the adsorption capacity of an ANG storage tank and to size and optimize the operation of a carbon-based filter for ANG applications. [Pg.479]

Storage tanks for finished fats and oils are preferably constructed of carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum. Finished-oil storage tanks vary considerably in size. Typically, they are designed to hold a given number of standard rail tank carloads of oil or a full operation batch of a deodorization vessel. A tank holding 500 metric tons of product is considered large, and a 10-metric-ton tank is considered small. [Pg.2618]

The basic objective of each procedure is to obtain a truly representative sample or, more often, a composite of several samples that can be considered to be a representative sample. In some cases, because of the size of the storage tank and the lack of suitable methods of agitation, several samples are taken from large storage tanks in such a manner that the samples represent the properties of the bulk material from different locations in the tank and thus the composite sample will be representative of the entire lot being sampled. This procedure allows for differences in sample that might result from the stratification of the bulk material because of tank size or... [Pg.19]
