The most convenient form of weighing bottle is one fitted with an external cap and made of glass, polythene or polycarbonate. A weighing bottle with an internally fitting stopper is not recommended there is always the danger that small particles may lodge at the upper end of the bottle and be lost when the stopper is pressed into place.

Another type of disc centrifuge has nozzles or orifices at the periphery where thickened solids are discharged continuously, and sometimes a fraction of this discharge is recycled to ensure that the nozzles are able to prevent breakthrough of the clarified supernatant liquid. Sometimes these nozzles are internally fitted to the bowl. Others are opened and closed electrically or hydrostatically from a build up of the sludge within the bowl.

Ideally, the best location for an explosion-relief vent wonld be as close as possible to the sonrce of ignition however, predicting the ignition source is nearly impossible.
