Storage biological agents

If an attack on a chemical asset or by a chemical or biological agent does occur, it is essential that the damage be contained, neutralized, and remediated as expeditiously and safely as possible. Most chemical production and storage facilities already have disaster recovery and containment plans in place in case of an accident. These plans are also generally applicable to intentional attack. By design, damage to production facilities and the potential for massive chemical release, especially outside the plant boundary, is expected to be limited. An industry-wide system is also in place for response to transportation accidents,... [Pg.16]

Equipment used for the storage of biological agents or products should be designed and used in such a manner as to prevent any possible mix-up. All stored items should be clearly and unambiguously labelled and in leak-proof containers. Items such as cells and organisms seed stock should be stored in dedicated equipment... [Pg.181]

Operation FULL-UP, the objective of which was to destroy confidence in fuel supplied by the Soviet Bloc by indicating it is contaminated. The operation was to be accomplished by introducing a known biological agent into jet fuel storage facilities. This agent flourishes in jet fuel and grows until it consumes all the space inside the tank [136]. [Pg.1578]

Hazardous Materials Materials that present special safety risks during transport, storage, use, or disposal. These include, but are not limited to, certain highly toxic, reactive, or otherwise hazardous chemicals, gases, and biological agents. [Pg.292]

I heard of a case where the ultrapure water distribution system became contaminated with biological agents ( wee beasties ). The maintenance people knew how to solve the problem - they dumped pool chlorine in the water feed. It blew up the ion exchange columns. In another case, the top of the storage tank was left uncovered and seagulls left their waste in the storage tank. [Pg.507]
