Labeling, unambiguous

Identification of the equipment. Many accidents have occurred because maintenance workers opened up the wrong equipment. Equipment which is under repair should be numbered or labeled unambiguously. Temporaiy labels should be used if there are no permanent ones. Pointing out the correc t equipment is not sufficient. The pump you repaired last week is leaking again is a recipe for an accident. 

Benzoates. The selective debenzoylation of sucrose octabenzoate [2425-84-5] using isopropylamine in the absence of solvents caused deacylation in the furanose ring to give 2,3,4,6,1/3/6 -hepta- and 2,3,4,6,1/6 -hexa-O-benzoyl-sucroses in 24.1 and 25.4% after 21 and 80 hours, respectively (54). The unambiguous assignment of partially benzoylated sucrose derivatives was accompHshed by specific isotopic labeling techniques (54). Identification of any benzoylated sucrose derivative can thus be achieved by comparison of its C-nmr carbonyl carbon resonances with those of the assigned octabenzoate derivative after benzoylation with 10 atom % benzoyl—carbonyl chloride in pyridine. 

The squared deviations between the calculated and actual responses are shown in Table 12.6c (see column labeled SSq). The AIC values are calculated according to Equation 11.30. The values are shown in Table 12.6c. It can be seen that the fit to the curves with a mean Emax and slope gives a lower AIC value. Therefore, this model is statistically preferable. It is also the most unambiguous model for simple competitive antagonism since it fulfills the criteria of parallel dextral displacement of dose-response curves with no diminution of maxima. The calculated curves are shown in Figure 12.7b. 

In molecules with little or no symmetry, it may still be possible to recognize the main localized-orbital component of certain molecular orbitals. It is then convenient to adopt the label of this localized type as the label of the molecular orbital, even though the molecular symmetry does not coincide with the local symmetry. For instance, in methylenimine again, the 5A orbital is clearly built out of the in-plane 7rc 2 group orbital, with a small NH component. We therefore label the orbital t CU2, although the molecule does not have a vertical symmetry plane. Similarly, the orbitals 7A and 8A of propylene are labeled 7TqH3, tt CU2 (111.49).a Other examples where the local symmetry is sufficiently preserved and only weakly perturbed by the molecular environment are hydrazine (111.34) and methylamine (III.31). In some cases we have omitted the label as no unambiguous classification is possible. 

Terpenoid substances are of broad distribution and diverse function in insects. One set, elaborated by the mandibular glands of Acanthomyops claviger, acts both as a defensive secretion and as an alarm releaser. When fed Cu-labeled acetate or mevalonate, laboratory colonies of these ants produce radioactive citronellal and citral, providing unambiguous evidence for de novo synthesis of these terpenes by the ant. The incorporations of these precursors implicate the mevalonic acid pathway as the likely biosynthetic route. 

It shall be unlawful for any person to manufacture, sell, or offer to sell any toy or plaything, including children s furniture, decorated or covered with paint or any other material containing lead or other substance of a poisonous nature, from contact with which children may be injuriously affected, unless such article shall contain a label affixed thereto stating in clear and unambiguous language that the said paint, or other material, contains lead or other substance of a poisonous nature. 

An unambiguous identification of anomalous muonium with the bond-center site became possible based on pseudopotential-spin-density-functional calculations (Van de Walle, 1990). For an axially symmetric defect such as anomalous muonium the hyperfine tensor can be written in terms of an isotropic and an anisotropic hyperfine interaction. The isotropic part (labeled a) is related to the spin density at the nucleus, ip(0) [2 it is often compared to the corresponding value in vacuum, leading to the ratio i7s = a/Afee = j i (O) Hi/) / (O) vac- The anisotropic part (labeled b) describes the p-like contribution to the defect wave function. 

Availability of a sample isotopically enriched with 15N and 13C offers the NMR spectro-scopist additional tools for overcoming the problems encountered in homonuclear experiments. In an obvious extension of the homonuclear experiments, the carbon or nitrogen dimension can be used to improve the resolution in NOESY spectra. However, recent trends clearly favor the through-bond approach where the presence of a cross peak unambiguously proves the existence of a chemical bond between the nuclei involved. Let us review briefly the experiments available for labeled oligonucleotides. 

It should be noted that the operation of these effects is attributed to the interaction of substituents only. Thus, in no cases has involvement of ring atoms of the diazole in the losses of CHO and CH2O been detected". The use of the labelled compounds unambiguously demonstrated that the diazole ring of the molecular ion structures is retained in the fragment ion discussed above".
