We have noted the noise-sensitivity problem of the simple inverse filter and introduced modifications to alleviate these difficulties. Modifications yielded different functional forms for y(co). The convenient single-step property of the basic method was nevertheless retained. We select a Time variable and set the Stop value to 7200 s (2 h). Other criteria could also be specified, such as a maximum reactor temperature and a desired concentration.

The Hamiltonian, the adjoint equations and the optimal reflux ratio correlation will be same as those in Equations P.10-P.13 (Diwekar, 1992). However, note that the final conditions (stopping criteria) for the minimum time and the maximum distillate problems are different. The stopping criterion for the minimum time problem is when (D, xq) is achieved, while the stopping criterion for the maximum distillate problem is when t, xo) is achieved. Stopping criteria. A rule used to terminate the iterative training process for neural network learning or function minimization. To prevent overtraining, the stopping criteria may not be based solely upon the error function for example performance on a validation set is often used to stop training. 

The model was implemented in GAMS 22.4 and solved with CPLEX 10.1, on a Pentium D820 with 2 GHz RAM. The stopping criteria were either the optimal solution or 2 hours of computation. CPLEX s polishing option was used for 30 seconds. 

In noisy systems it is not possible to verify if the gradient of the metamodel matches the gradient of the true function. In this case the stopping criteria is based on the assumption that if in two successive major iterations (at least one contraction must be performed) the optimal solution is the same, we would expect that the gradients also match the true gradients . This is only a heuristic based on the observation that, as the domain reduces, the accuracy of the kriging increases, and also the accuracy of the derivative information extracted from the kriging. 

Selim and Alsultan [5] pointed out that no stopping point was computationally available on clustering analysis based on SA. Searching some stopping criteria for the use of SA cluster analysis deserves further investigation. It is rather time-consuming to proceed the calculation...

The most important stopping criterion is the satisfaction of the DM in some solution. (Some interactive methods use also algorithmic stopping criteria but we do not go into such details here.) In each iteration, some information about the problem or solutions available is given to the DM and then (s)he is supposed to answer some questions or to give some other kind of information. New solutions are generated based on the information specified. In this way, the DM directs the solution process towards such Pareto optimal solutions that (s)he is interested in and only such solutions are generated.
