Sterile phase

For the sterilization phase (2), a certain amount of H202 is injected into the plant and pumped off after some time. This procedure is performed once or may be repeated several times. [Pg.182]

Figure 9.1 Inverse partial melting problem in the three-dimensional space of elements 1, 2, 3 when the source is known. Projection of the source onto the sample subspace provides the mass-fraction of each phase of the molten source. If one phase is at the origin (sterile phase), every representative point can be shifted by a constant vector. Figure 9.3 General solution of the partial melting problem for a suite of cogenetic rocks when the source composition is unknown. One phase M has a regular behavior, the olivine is sterile and does not contain any of the analyzed elements. The solution is the direction represented by the heavy segment joining the source and the sterile phase. It is quite usual to find a high internal pressure maintained in autoclaves at the end of their sterilization phases until some cooling has taken place. This is typical for fluid load cycles, which may be held under air pressure until the signals from all of the sensors indicate that the temperature is lower than 80°C. In these cases the signal is to close the air injection valve and open a pressure release valve at the appropriate temperature. Cooling may be subject to a phase time excess. [Pg.98]

Part failure after radiation sterilization in medical parts is a concern in the plastics industry. When the sterilization phase is complete damage to the part does not cease, but continues in a dark reaction for a period of time, often years. [Pg.3018]

There is little doubt that, at least with type II isotherms, we can tell the approximate point at which multilayer adsorption sets in. The concept of a two-dimensional phase seems relatively sterile as applied to multilayer adsorption, except insofar as such isotherm equations may be used as empirically convenient, since the thickness of the adsorbed film is not easily allowed to become variable. [Pg.653]

To act as an efficient sterilizing agent, steam should be able to provide moisture and heat efficiently to the article to be sterilized. This is most effectively done using saturated steam, which is steam in thermal equilibrium with the water from which it is derived, i.e. steam on the phase boundary (Fig. 20.5). Under these circumstances, contact with a cooler surface causes condensation and contraction drawing in fresh steam and leading to the immediate release ofthe latent heat, which represents approximately 80% ofthe heat energy. In this way heat and moisture are imparted rapidly to articles being sterilized and dry porous loads are quickly penetrated by the steam. [Pg.393]
