Sterculia setigera, gum

Hirst E L, Hough L, Jones J K N 1949 The structure of Sterculia setigera gum. I. An investigation by the method of paper partition chromatography of the products of hydrolysis of the gum. J Chem Soc 3145-3151... [Pg.175]

Chromatography has proved to be an excellent tool for the identification and isolation of carbohydrates. Both paper and partition chromatography were employed for the identification and separation of D-tagatose from the gum exudate of Sterculia setigera. Previous to that, D-psicose and L-sorbose had been placed in the absorption series listed for clay.88 Conditions for zoning keto-D-psicose pentaacetate on magnesol-celite have been described by Binkley and Wolfrom (see page 126, ref. 137). [Pg.117]

When the gum of the shrub Sterculia setigera is subjected to acidic hydrolysis, one of the water-soluble components of the hydrolysate is found to be tagatose. The following information is known about tagatose ... [Pg.1153]

Occurrence. D-Tagatose (D-Zyxo-hexulose, 32) has been found only as a hydrolytic product from a gum exudate of the tropical tree Sterculia setigera.154 A biological role of its 1-phosphate and 1,6-bisphosphate has been described in biotransformations of D-galactose in several microorganisms.155... [Pg.30]

Obt. as a hydrol. prod, from a gum exudate of the tropical tree Sterculia setigera and from the lichen Rocella linearis. Prepd. by alkaline isomerisation of D-Galactose or by oxidn. of n-Talitol with Acetobacter suboxydans. Used in the food industry. [Pg.895]
