Static forces, installation

The force required to overcome the static friction of the pipe in expanding or contracting on its supports, from installed to operating position. The length of pipe considered should be that located between the anchor and the expansion joint. [Pg.1002]

When installing a screening machine, the surrounding structure should be properly designed to withstand the forces generated by the screening equipment. In addition to the static load of the... [Pg.1726]

Static coefficient of friction (SCOF) relates to the traction between a person s foot or shoe sole and the walking surface. We can define SCOE as the relative force that resists the tendency of the shoe or foot to slide along a walkway surface. ADA reconunends a minimum of 0.6 on level walking surfaces and 0.8 on ramps. OSHA requires an SCOF 0.5 in all areas. Slip resistance relates to a combination of factors including type of surface, and care and maintenance procedures with the presence of foreign materials between the foot/shoe sole and the walking surface. The AIA s Academy of Architecture for Healthcare states that floor materials shall be readily cleanable and appropriate for each location. Install water-resistant floors in all food preparation areas and in locations containing baths or showers. [Pg.97]

During operation, the control enclosure interior temperature shall not experience a rise in temperature greater than 40° Fahrenheit over ambient temperature. Should the installed equipment cause this condition to occur in a static environment, filtered forced air shall be provided to maintain this temperature requirement. Appropriate alarms on this air flow must be provided. [Pg.323]

Exhaust air must enter the hood to carry the contaminants with it and convey them to the exhaust point. The required air velocity at the point the contaminants are given off to force these contaminants into an exhaust hood is called capture velocity and should be at least 0.5 m/sec. An airflow meter can be used to measure the air velocity. A static pressure gauge can be installed to continuously monitor the air velocity in the hood by pressure drop. [Pg.543]
