Start transfer signal

If the growing polypeptide contains a stop-transfer signal (see p. 228), then this hydro-phobic section of the chain remains stuck in the membrane outside the translocon, and an integral membrane protein arises. In the course of translation, an additional signal sequence can re-start the transfer of the chain through the translocon. Several repetitions of this process produce integral membrane proteins with several transmembrane helices (see p. 214). [Pg.230]

When equimolar quantities of 80a and its dication 110 are combined in acetonitrile, single electron transfer occurs and the coproportionation product was obtained (95TL2741).Tliis deeply red-colored, air-sensitive radical cation 111 showed a strong ESR signal (g = 2.0034). On the other hand, the excellent electron donor 80a could be prepared by electrolytic reduction starting from 110. It was necessary to carry out the reduction with scrupulous exclusion of oxygen. Tlius, the electrolysis of 110 at -1.10 V initially gave rise to an intense red color, which was presumably due to the formation of 111. Upon further reduction, the red color faded and the tetraaza-fulvalene 80a was isolated at a 62% yield (Scheme 45). [Pg.156]

The DEPT experiment (Doddrell elal, 1982) involves a similar polarization transfer as the INEPT experiment, except it has the advantage that all the C signals are in phase at the start of acquisition so there is no need for an extra refocusing delay as in the refocused INEPT experiment. Coupled DEPT spectra, if recorded, would therefore retain the familiar phasing and multiplet structures (1 1 for doublets, 1 2 1 for triplets, etc.). Moreover, DEPT experiments do not require as accurate a setting of delays between pulses as do INEPT experiments. [Pg.117]

In the DEPT experiment, all the signals of the insensitive nuclei are in phase at the start of acquisition, so no refocusing period A (with accompanying loss in sensitivity) is required. Since the multiplets appear in-phase, it is called a distortionless experiment. Moreover, DEPT spectra depend on the angle 0 of the last polarization transfer pulse, and are less dependent on the delay times between the pulses. An error of 20% in the estimation of/values still affords acceptable DEPT... [Pg.139]

Formation of the adduct with dirhodium complex [6] has significantly changed the chemical shift of the compounds in which proton transfer occurred, for example, for the adduct of iV-(5-nitrosalicylidene)-2-ami nobutane, the chemical shift was —198.2, which was shielded by of 110 ppm in comparison to that in the starting Schiff base.12 The large signal shift was due to the shift of the proton transfer equilibrium towards NH tautomer. For the adduct of N-(salicylidene)-2-aminobutane, existing in the OH-form, the 15N chemical shift has changed from —87.5 to — 84.6 ppm. [Pg.147]

A straightforward definition of communication is not difficult. As a starting point we can define it as the transfer of information between two communicative units. Ethology has created many models for the process of information transfer. Basic to these approaches is the term signal, an information carrier which is produced through encoding information in an... [Pg.91]
