Spool piece removal

The piping arrangement should also provide access for tube removal. This usually means a spool piece or flanged elbow in the pipe line connecting to the top of the channel nozzle.

To allow for system testing during plant shutdown, reactor water, via a temporary connection (removable spool piece) to the RHR system, is discharged into the reactor vessel through the core spray sparger. The spool piece is removed prior to plant startup and the open pipe capped. 

Many cokers have a removable spool piece between the bottom head of the coke drum and the resid feed line. This section of piping must be disconnected every cycle. Usually, it is not possible to drop the bottom head without going through this exercise. By designing the bottom-head removal carriage properly, this spool piece can be left permanently attached to the bottom head. This feature saves 10 minutes during the unheading operation and 20 minutes when the bottom head is replaced.

Remove the rod and the spooled DNA from the 95% ethanol, blot away all obvious residual fluid with a clean piece of filter paper, and then dissolve the DNA by stirring the glass rod, with its spooled DNA, in a test tube containing 10 ml of dilute (1/1 OX) saline-citrate (sterile solution if the DNA is to be used in Experiment 20).
