Sponge Corticium, alkaloids from

Cortistatins A-D (10-13) were isolated from the marine sponge Corticium simplex [13]. These steroidal alkaloids are unrelated to cortistatin, a neuropeptide stmcturally related to the hormone somatostatin which has antiangiogenic activity [14]. [Pg.237]

The cortistatins are a relatively new and novel family of steroidal alkaloids that were isolated and identified in 2006 and 2007 from the marine sponge Corticium simplex [Hill 3]. This new family of compounds exhibits potent antiproliferative activity. The most potent members of the family are cortistatin A 231 and cortistatin J 232, which display low nanomolar growth inhibition constants (Figure 19.25). [Pg.623]

The cortistatins are a group of steroidal alkaloids first isolated in 2006 from the marine sponge Corticium simplex. The cortistatins inhibit proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) with high selectivity, and... [Pg.594]

Sponges of the genus Corticium (Homosclerophorida, Plakinidae) collected from Bunaken Island, Sulawesi, Indonesia, showed antimicrobial activity against Bacillus subtilis. Through a bioassay-directed isolation procedure, two new steroidal alkaloids, lokysterolamines A (3) and B (4), were isolated (19). Alkaloids 3 and 4 were found to be structurally related to plakinamine-A (1)(7[Pg.236]

Meridine is an alkaloid of pyridoacridine and has been found in sponges and in tunicates (Molinski, 1993). Isolated in 1991 from the Australian ascidian Amphicarpa meridiana, this antifungal compound was found the following year in an undetermined species of the genus Corticium, harvested in the Bahamas. In the current state... [Pg.678]
