L. This chemically reacting flowfield is solved using the SPIN application, while PREMIX is employed to study the freely propagating flame in which the stagnation surface is absent. The GRI 3.0 chemical kinetics mechanism for methane-air combustion is used in both simulations, employing 49 species and 277 elementary reactions steps [18]. 

The organic substrates were resin layers formed by the spin coatingof PI-5878 (8juthick) onto Si wafers. The resin was heated to approximately 100°C on a hot plate for 20-30 minutes to remove excess solvent (i.e.,N-methylpyrroli-done) so as to form a rigid condensed-phase polyamic acid (PAA) layer. A 0.1% aqueous solution of JT-APS was then applied to the PAA film layer by use of a puddle-spin application method. These specimens were examined by XPS before and after in situ thermal treatment. The results were compared with those obtained for non-silane treated PAA films before and after curing.

Our analysis of fiber spinning in this chapter will be based on an inelastic rheological model of the stresses. This rheological description appears to be adequate for polyesters and nylons, which comprise the bulk of commercial spinning applications, and our spinning model is essentially the one used in industrial computer codes. This is a process in which melt viscoelasticity can sometimes play an important role, however, and we will revisit the process in Chapter 10.
