Dermatology procedures can be performed with the laser—many of which are cosmetic procedures done to improve appearance. Some laser dermatologic applications are acne treatment and acne scar removal, removal of age spots, skin resurfacing, scar removal, tattoo removal, spider vein removal, and hair removal. [Pg.1120]

The associated varicose tributary and reticular veins and telangiectasias are treated separately with adjunctive therapies such as compression sclerotherapy or microphlebectomy. Some physicians will perform microphlebectomy for varicose veins at the same time as EVTA. Other physicians elect to perform phlebectomy or compression sclerotherapy of the varicose veins at a later time. Almost all physicians will defer therapy of spider veins to a later time. [Pg.121]

In our practice, phlebectomy is generally recommended at the same time as EVTA when varicose tributaries are larger than 8-10 mm in diameter or when EVTA will occlude their inflow and outflow. If such veins are left untreated they may thrombose in 5%-10% of cases and become painful, erythematous, and possibly result in skin pigmentation. Also, if they thrombose, their complete eradication may be made more difficult and certainly will be delayed. For smaller varicose veins and all reticular and spider veins, we offer compression sclerotherapy beginning 4 weeks after EVTA. By this point the veins have substantially decompressed, making their eradication with injections easier. [Pg.121]

Treatment for patients with CVI begins with a careful history and directed physical exam. All patients with visible varicose veins or symptoms suggesting venous insufficiency should be evaluated with DUS [7, 8]. In patients with spider veins near the medial ankle (corona phlebectasia) or along the medial... [Pg.121]

Sclerotherapy is a procedure used to treat blood vessels or malformation of blood vessels and/or the lymphatic system. A medicine is injected into the vessels to cause shrinkage. Sclerotherapy is used in children and young adults with vascular and lymphatic malformation. In adults, sclerotherapy is often used to treat spider veins, smaller varicose veins and haemorrhoids. [Pg.742]

Vitamin K has also recently been smdied for its effects on reducing bruising following certain dermatologic procedures. More recently, it has also been used in patients undergoing laser treatments to lessen the appearance of spider veins on the face. [Pg.370]

Cirrhosis is often asymptomatic until complications of liver disease are present. Mrs MW may present with itching, jaundice, dark urine, pale fatty stools, abdominal pain, nausea, fatigue, bleeding - such as nose bleeds, hepatic encephalopathy, hepatomegaly, ascites, distended abdominal veins, spider angiomata, palmar erythema and asterixis. She may also present with the signs and symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, which include irritability, anxiety, tachycardia, tremor, sweating, confusion and hallucinations. [Pg.347]

In contrast, the brown recluse spider from the USA has a more complex venom, which causes damage to arteries and veins, and the formation of clots. This leads to pain and inflammation, and damage to tissues which may leave a scar. Victims can die of circulatory or kidney failure. [Pg.163]

But it is not only geodesists who have to occupy themselves with networks also in other technical fields we can discover network structures. The most well-known technical networks are electrical networks, water supply networks, transportation networks, frame networks and communication networks. Even in nature the veins of leaves and wings of the dragonfly show network structures, and perhaps the most well known is the spider s web network. [Pg.317]
