Spending spend-interest

The initial step is to identify which database, from a few thousands worldwide (about 10 000 in 2002), provides the requested information. The next step is to determine which subsection of the topic is of interest, and to identify typical search terms or keywords (synonyms, homonyms, different languages, or abbreviations) (Table 5-1). During the search in a database, this strategy is then executed (money is charged for spending time on some chemical databases). The resulting hits may be further refined by combining keywords or database fields, respectively, with Boolean operators (Table 5-2). The final results should be saved in electronic or printed form. [Pg.230]

A study of Table 1.1 reveals interesting features as to the mobility of the adsorbed atoms. Thus, for an argon atom on the (100) face, the easiest path from one preferred site S to the next is over the saddle point P, so that the energy barrier which must be surmounted is (1251 — 855) or 396 X 10 J/molecule. Since the mean thermal energy kT at 78 K is only 108 J/molecule, the argon molecule will have severely limited mobility at this temperature and will spend nearly all of its time in the close vicinity of site S its adsorption will be localized. On the other hand, for helium on the... [Pg.8]

The appointed customer representative will need to spend some time with the customer to learn their ways, and understand their language, needs, and expectations. Hence if the native tongue of your staff is English and you do business with Swedish, Italian, and French companies you may need people who can speak these languages and who are familiar with the appropriate subject vocabulary. Beware, however, that in appointing such a person you choose wisely. It also has to be someone you can trust to represent your interests. You will need a means of calibrating this person so that he/she does not get carried away with enthusiasm and start to impose requirements that are no more than personal likes and dislikes. [Pg.126]

The effect of these efforts to realign the financial interests of utilities with the public interest was a dramatic increase in utility spending on DSM programs. [Pg.321]

This method, which is favored by many accountants today, takes into account the concept that money has a time value. This is because 2000 in 10 years time is not the same as 2000 now. Similarly, if a project earns 2000 in 10 years time this is not the same as 2000 spent now to help finance the project. If, instead of spending this 2000, it had been invested at compound interest, then in 10 years time it would have become a much larger... [Pg.467]

The collection of maple sap and its conversion to syrup or sugar illustrate many of the principles covered in this chapter. Moreover, in northern New England, making maple syrup is an interesting way to spend the month of March (Figure A), which separates midwinter from "mud season."... [Pg.277]

The interest, economics and changing tastes together indicated the most important phenomenon, which pushed cocktails into center stage—the acceptance by women of cocktail drinking as a social form, and a new equality of enjoyment in going out. The cocktail scene, as opposed to the bar scene, was sexually comfortable and independent—mutually neutral territory where a group of any description could spend a few hours or an evening over a few conversation-piece drinks or a few favorites. [Pg.4]

The number of ions chosen has an effect on the sensitivity of the analysis. The advantage of SIM is achieved through spending more time monitoring the ions of interest - the more ions being monitored, then the less time will be spent on each of them and the lower the increase in sensitivity of SIM over fnU scanning. [Pg.71]

Don Francisco went back to Granada to spend his final years. There, he still kept an interest in a fraction of his father s land which he had inherited. In 1981, his health visibly declined, and cancer of the intestines was diagnosed. He had to sutler two major operations which were of no avail, and finally he accepted his fate with great fortitude and dignity. Don Francisco spent the following trying months surrounded by his closest relatives, receiving the most devoted care from his wife. He died on November 19, 1983. [Pg.16]

Heightened interest in pleasurable activities with high risk of negative consequences (e.g., spending sprees and promiscuity)... [Pg.587]

Models used within industry are also different. In this case, in most situations, confidential data are used, and the interest is to avoid false positive, i.e. the industry wants to avoid to make studies (and spend money) for chemicals which then result to be non active (false positives). [Pg.84]
