Money spending

Moving business into virtualization brings undoubtedly many benefits. First, server consolidation allows increasing the utilization of physical servers. Many servers use only 10 to 15% of hardware re-sources (Portnoy 2012), thus other resources are wasted. Such a solution is very unprofitable. Virtualization gives the way to better utilization of resources. Moving processing environments to virtual machines decreases the number of physical machines with utilization ratio up to 90% (Portnoy 2012). Fewer servers also reduce the costs of power consumption as well as money spends on hardware maintenance. 

The objective of any exploration venture is to find new volumes of hydrocarbons at a low cost and in a short period of time. Exploration budgets are in direct competition with acquisition opportunities. If a company spends more money finding oil than it would have had to spend buying the equivalent amount in the market place there is little Incentive to continue exploration. Conversely, a company which manages to find new reserves at low cost has a significant competitive edge since it can afford more exploration, find and develop reservoirs more profitably, and can target and develop smaller prospects. 

The onus for the organisation of any inspection programme beyond that required by Class rests with the owner or operator of the ship. Under certain circumstances, for example, when the propagation of cracks could lead to pollution through the loss of cargo, an owner of an oil tanker operating in US coasted waters may spend a considerable amount of money on preventative inspections. 

The initial step is to identify which database, from a few thousands worldwide (about 10 000 in 2002), provides the requested information. The next step is to determine which subsection of the topic is of interest, and to identify typical search terms or keywords (synonyms, homonyms, different languages, or abbreviations) (Table 5-1). During the search in a database, this strategy is then executed (money is charged for spending time on some chemical databases). The resulting hits may be further refined by combining keywords or database fields, respectively, with Boolean operators (Table 5-2). The final results should be saved in electronic or printed form. 

About 20% of the total import bill of a country like Britain is spent on engineering materials. Table 2.2 shows how this spend is distributed. Iron and steel, and the raw materials used to make them, account for about a quarter of it. Next are wood and lumber - still widely used in light construction. More than a quarter is spent on the metals copper, silver, aluminium and nickel. All polymers taken together, including rubber, account for little more than 10%. If we include the further metals zinc, lead, tin, tungsten and mercury, the list accounts for 99% of all the money spent abroad on materials, and we can safely ignore the contribution of materials which do not appear on it. 

Iron and steel industries have been concerned with emissions from their furnaces and cupolas since the industry started. Pressures for control have forced the companies to such a low level of permissible emissions that some of the older operations have been closed rather than spend the money to comply. The companies controlling these operations have not gone out of business but rather have opened a new, controlled plant to replace each old plant. Table 6-3 illustrates the changes in the steelmaking processes that have occurred in the United States. 

The organization has wasted resources in spending time, money, and effort in training workers who realize that they are unlikely to use the training. 

If our inspection process has pointed out areas in need of housekeeping, and these same areas continually show up on our inspection, an adjustment would appear to be in order. One possible solution would be to spend more time and effort on housekeeping issues. However, no matter how much time and effort we spend on housekeeping, we can usually find places lacking in housekeeping. Possibly there is no money, time, equipment, or other resources available to perform housekeeping activities at this time. 

Those who want to spend more money to make a plant safer and those who think enough has been spent share a false premise they both assume more safety will cost more money. 

This method, which is favored by many accountants today, takes into account the concept that money has a time value. This is because 2000 in 10 years time is not the same as 2000 now. Similarly, if a project earns 2000 in 10 years time this is not the same as 2000 spent now to help finance the project. If, instead of spending this 2000, it had been invested at compound interest, then in 10 years time it would have become a much larger... 

Regarding plutonium solubilities, judgment needs to be made upon how much time and money to spend determining exact Pu solubilities when all that may be required is to demonstrate that Pu solubilities are acceptably low for repository licensability purposes.

Costs associated with increased government regulation are also difficult to quantify. Public concern in response to chemical release accidents affects regulators and community policy groups. It is evident that the U.S. chemical industry is already spending large amounts of money to avoid accidents and to deal with their consequences when they occur these costs are borne in part by the consumers. Continued expenditures are likely as industry strives to achieve an "acceptable" level of public safety throughout all chemical industry operations.
