Specular iron

Glanz-effekt, m. gloss, luster, -einfall, m. grazing incidence, -eisen, n. silvery iron, eisenerz, n., -eisenstein, m. specular iron ore (hematite). [Pg.186]

So prepared, it presents a bluish-black appearance, and a metallic lustre very similar to that of black-lead or specular iron ore. It is generally obtained in Orystels, which are modifications of an elongated octahedron with a rhomboidal ha3e, the primary form bang. 2a Fig. 200. Fig. 280. Fig 261. Fig. 262. [Pg.387]

Specular Iron Ore—1led Hematite.—This is a sesqui-oxide of iron existing in great abundance, and found in a variety of shapes, both massive and in crystals. The following are a few of the crystalline forms in which It fa found—Figs. 272,273, 274. The crystals are of... [Pg.407]

Micaceous iron ore Fe203 52 6 Fohated variety of specular iron. [Pg.32]

Ferric oxide, Iron sesqui-oxide, Fe203, occurs in abundant quantities in nature, both in the massive and crystalline forms, the former being known as red haematites, whilst the latter are termed specular iron (see p. 16) when the crystals are rhombohedra and scalcnohcdra, or micaceous iron when in thin translucent scales. [Pg.115]

SPECULAR IRON (1309-37-1) Violent reactions with powdered aluminum (thermite reaction), hydrogen peroxide, calcium disilicide (thermite reaction), ethylene oxide (may cause explosive polymerization), calcium hypochlorite, hydrazine, hydrogen trisulfide, powdered magnesium. Incompatible with powdered calcium carbide, carbon monoxide, chlorides, guanidinium perchlorate, metal acetylides. Contact with the explosive hydrazinium diperchlorate or ammonium perchlorate can be made more heat-, shock-, or friction-sensitive. Incompatible with aluminum-magnesium-zinc alloys. [Pg.1090]

Occurrence.—Free, in small quantity only, in platinum ores and meteorites. As FeoOs in red heematite and specular iron as hydrates of FeaOa in brown heematite and oolitic iron as FeaO in magnetic iron as FeCOj in spathic iron, clay ironstone and bog ore and as FeSa in pyrites. It is also a constituent of most soils and. clays, exists in inany mineral waters, and in the red hlood pigment of animals. [Pg.152]
