Physical background. MAS will narrow the inliomogeneously broadened satellite transitions to give a series of sharp sidebands whose intensity envelopes closely follow the static powder pattern so that the quadnipole interaction can be deduced. The work of Samoson [25] gave real impetus to satellite transition spectroscopy by showing that both the second-order quadnipolar linewidths and isotropic shifts are fiinctions of / and Some combinations of / and produce smaller second-order quadnipolar effects on the satellite lines than... [Pg.1485]

Dynamic SIMS is used to measure elemental impurities in a wide variety of materials, but is almost new used to provide chemical bonding and molecular information because of the destructive nature of the technique. Molecular identihcation or measurement of the chemical bonds present in the sample is better performed using analytical techniques, such as X-Ray Photoelectron Spectrometry (XPS), Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy, or Static SIMS. [Pg.533]

A number of ferrites have been subjected to shock modification and studied with x-ray diffraction as well as static magnetization and Mossbauer spectroscopy [87V01], Studies were carried out on cobalt, nickel, and copper ferrites as well as magnetite (iron ferrite). [Pg.170]

We have undertaken a series of experiments Involving thin film models of such powdered transition metal catalysts (13,14). In this paper we present a brief review of the results we have obtained to date Involving platinum and rhodium deposited on thin films of tltanla, the latter prepared by oxidation of a tltanliua single crystal. These systems are prepared and characterized under well-controlled conditions. We have used thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and static secondary Ion mass spectrometry (SSIMS). Our results Illustrate the power of SSIMS In understanding the processes that take place during thermal treatment of these thin films. Thermal desorption spectroscopy Is used to characterize the adsorption and desorption of small molecules, In particular, carbon monoxide. AES confirms the SSIMS results and was used to verify the surface cleanliness of the films as they were prepared. [Pg.81]
