High-pressure loss in a gas turbine combustor would result in excess specific fuel consumption and thus should be avoided. When (j> = 0.237 and p = 8 ppcm, the porous layers created an additional pressure drop of about 150 Pa for one 2.5-centimeter-thick porous layer and about 300 Pa for a 5.1-centimeter-thick foam. The loss of efficiency due to the pressure drop is estimated as 0.086% for 2.50-centimeter-thick insert and 0.17% for 5.1-centimeter-thick insert. 

Brake-Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC) This is a measure of the pounds of fuel consumed per brake horsepower for a one hour period.

Calculation of specific fuel consumption is based on an engine efficiency of 27% and is equal to 0.95 kg of solid fuel/HP-hr. 

One common reason for using OEC is a reduction in the specific fuel consumption when less fuel is required for a given unit of production because of the improvement in available heat. A recent study projects that, for example, the cost of natural gas is expected to rise by about 10% from 1993 to the year 2000.15 At the same time, the cost of oxygen is expected to decrease by 10% due to lower electricity...

The crank angle in degrees expresses the minimum spark advance for best torque (MBT). Maximum engine torque is expressed where the spark timing is at the MBT point. Likewise, the specific fuel consumption will be at a minimum at the MBT point.
