The semiempirical calculation of thermochemical properties has been reviewed recently [32], The present chapter is a condensed and updated version of this previous review. It outlines the theoretical background of semiempirical methods, defines specific conventions, provides statistical evaluations, and discusses the performance with regard to thermochemical properties.

A clear definition of terms is critical to the snccess of all communication. The information that appears in the memory space cannot be transferred automatically to the structure space, and can be used only by employing specific conventions (the recognition of vortices in the memory matrix, for example, can be used only if a convention gives a meaning to the corresponding points of the structure matrix). In Task 10.3, we are concerned with issues of both form and layout. There are often specific conventions used in report writing. For example, it is common to avoid the use of T, and reports are often written in the passive voice. Many reports begin with an executive summary, which is similar to an abstract and summarizes the main points of the report in continuous prose. Some of these conventions come from professional bodies and in this case the course guidelines you get on report writing will address these.

A = (after - before), this is an order-specific convention definition in all of thermodynamics AT = 0 means isothermal, same temperature, constant temperature Aq = Q means adiabatic, constant heat, no heat flow AP = 0 means isobaric, constant pressure, no change in pressure... 

The clinical technique known as Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) has been developed since the mid-1980s in response to dental clinical needs in Third World countries. It is an important application of adhesive dental materials, specifically conventional glass-ionomer cements, and would not be possible without this type of adhesive material (Frencken et al. 2004). ART involves the removal of carious tooth tissue with hand instruments rather than conventional dental drills. These hand-held instruments are formed as spoon-shaped excavators, and come in graded sizes.
